ECW Just got a lot better, because Chris Benoit was just drafted to the black brand :)

Some could see this as a demotion for Benoit, but it isn't. They are basically placing the brand on his shoulders. Ever since ECW started, they needed someone to build ECW around. At first it was RVD, but then he got arrested. Big Show was next, but between talks of retiring and the fact that fans didn't like him since he had no place in ECW, that pretty much crashed and burned. They brought Lashley over from Smackdown and the fans liked him, especially when he started feuding with McMahon, but he doesn't have the experience or skill that is needed to be the cornerstone of a promotion.

With Benoit, you get skill, experience, and the fact that there is little they could do to make people hate him. anyone who enters a feud with him comes out knowing more about the art of wrestling, and he has even hand picked people to work with to help them improve (most recently with MVP.) He is an ECW original, so the old Faithful may take a renewed interest in the brand, and the fact that he doesn't seem to care who he faces, he just wants to fight means he could be matched up against anyone.

One feud I would love to see is Benoit VS C.M. Punk. Keep them both faces and just have Benoit work with Punk. Punk had been around for a long time, but I am sure he would appreciate any advice from the Rabid Wolverine.
